Getting Shaft Speed Without Getting the Shaft

Obtaining a high-quality motor shaft speed signal is required for most motor position and speed control systems. However, obtaining such a signal may be more difficult than you think. This article presents one possible technique which uses only a two-channel timer to process the signals from a digital tachometer with a minimum number of required calculations.
